transitional housing for homeless families
In the past five years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of homeless families registered for support in San Francisco. [shell]tered makes use of its simple, modular construction to allow for immediate responses to sudden changes in homeless population. The building, which is sited on an under-utilized lot, has a set of constant parameters (primary structure, circulation, egress, light well) and variable parameters (residence units). These units are comprised of several ‘shells’ fastened together and could be assembled, clad, hoisted and installed by people that reside in the building.
